Third Annual Port Orford Water Festival

The Third Annual Port Orford Water Festival, held on April 16 and 17, was a huge success! The Festival kicked off on Friday, April 16 with a Keynote Address by Bob Bailey, Coastal Management Program Director for the Department of Land Conservation and Development. It was a full house in the Library with about 60 people in attendance.

The booths opened in the Community Building at 9:00 am. There were many old favorites like fish printing, sponsored by the Port Orford Art Council, and insect identification with Oregon State Parks. There were also some new faces such as the Friends of the Dunes and the Port Orford Watershed Council. All in all, about 15 agencies and organizations were involved.  The Festival was attended by approximately 125 K-8 students and 200+ adults.

After the booths closed, 12 lucky children received Surfing lessons on Dock Beach. The beach was full of parents and other onlookers. Every child was able to catch multiple waves and stayed warm by the bonfire during breaks. Thank you to all of the adult volunteers in the water that made this event possible – especially Surfrider Foundation and A Warm Current!
